Support Jamie for the 2019 motionball Marathon Of Sport Halifax

On July 20, I am participating in an all-day fundraiser called the motionball Marathon of Sport. All funds raised at the event are donated to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation. Throughout the day, I will be competing in a variety of sports alongside local Special Olympics athletes.

This past weekend (July 12-14) I was helping to run the Bocce tournament as part of the 2019 Special Olympics NS Summer Games. We had approximately 120 athletes competing for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in many male and female divisions. Above is a picture of Ricky Chan from PEI who has made the trip with his team to compete in our Games. For a lot of these athletes this is the highlight of their year. During the tournament I often think of where would they be if they weren't here competing. Especially for some of our lower functioning athletes. It is inspiring to be there watching them compete. It is little wonder it is a highlight of their year!
This is my once a year fundraiser. As mentioned I am 'all in' when it comes to Special Olympics. I am part of the organization all year long and this is how I help financially. I really appreciate if you could take the time to sponsor me. You will receive a tax receipt directly after you donate.

Attached is a short video Welcoming participants and guests to the 2018 SOC National Summer Games which was held in Antigonish last August. The Sobeys employee at the start of the video is Heather who will be competed in our Bocce tournament this last weekend. She won a gold medal. Have a look and thanks.

motionball for Special Olympics is a registered not-for-profit corporation, raising money for Special Olympics programs across Canada. 70% of the funds we raise are distributed to programs in the province where they are raised, with the remainder going to the long-term funding of programs through the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.

While COVID-19 has affected us all, Special Olympics athletes are feeling the effects of this global pandemic more than most. Sport programs are suspended, competitions have been cancelled, and many athletes remain stuck indoors, at a greater risk of contracting COVID-19 than the general population. Now more than ever, the role of motionball in these athlete’s lives is incredibly important. As one of the Special Olympics’ largest funding partners in Canada, motionball has donated over $13M to date. motionball supporters are dedicated to ensuring that every local club and program can return stronger than before, and that no Special Olympics athlete is left behind.
