Support Jimmy Darbyshire for the 2020 motionball Marathon Of Sport Vancouver

I am proud to be participating in motionball’s first ever virtual edition of Marathon of Sport, hosted by Olympic Champion Tessa Virtue.

We can’t play in person this year, so we need your support more than ever. With many Special Olympics programs and fundraising initiatives on hold, our goal is to ensure that no athlete is left behind when programs resume.

Your donation is critical in supporting athletes participating in Special Olympics programs at every level, from the athletes who bring home gold medals and make Canada proud on the world stage to the thousands who look forward to weekly practice for fitness, fun, and friendship. You are supporting the parents, siblings, caregivers and friends of individuals with intellectual disabilities, who imagine a world of inclusion & endless possibilities.

By supporting motionball, you are helping raise important funds and creating awareness for the Special Olympics movement and making it possible for more people with intellectual disabilities to benefit from the transformative power of sport.

Thank you for your consideration -- any support is greatly appreciated.

What is your happiest/proudest Special Olympics memory?

After four years of training everyday, I won a gold medal for Team BC at the Special Olympics 2020 National Winter Games in the 500m short track for speed skating.

How do you like to spend your time outside of Special Olympics (jobs, hobbies, activities, etc)?

I work part time, I skate with the Langley Blades Speed Skating Club in the winter, and I have a daily dry-land workout I do year round as well as running at the track with friends. I also enjoy drawing, animation, reading, playing video games, watching movies and hanging out with friends.

What do you love most about motionball events?

I really like playing all the different sports, and it’s always fun!

HOW CAN YOUR DOLLARS HELP?

motionball for Special Olympics is a registered not-for-profit corporation, raising money for Special Olympics programs across Canada. 70% of the funds we raise are distributed to programs in the province where they are raised, with the remainder going to the long-term funding of programs through the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.

While COVID-19 has affected us all, Special Olympics athletes are feeling the effects of this global pandemic more than most. Sport programs are suspended, competitions have been cancelled, and many athletes remain stuck indoors, at a greater risk of contracting COVID-19 than the general population. Now more than ever, the role of motionball in these athlete’s lives is incredibly important. As one of the Special Olympics’ largest funding partners in Canada, motionball has donated over $13M to date. motionball supporters are dedicated to ensuring that every local club and program can return stronger than before, and that no Special Olympics athlete is left behind.
