On September 25, I am participating in an all-day fundraiser called motionball Marathon of Sport: Challenge 21. This will be my 8th year participating! My inspiration for joining this great event is my brother Jason, a Special Olympian. This event for the past 8 years has and continues to be a date he circles on his calendar and looks forward to. Jason spends most of his time making sure everyone else is having a good time, this is an event that puts him first and recognizes the star that he is. I have been very fortunate over the past 7 years due to your generous donations to be a top 15 fundraiser each and every year a tradition I hope to continue. While fundraising is one of our goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more. This day not only brings awareness to the Special Olympics movement, but allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to interact, build lifelong friendships, and ultimately create more inclusive communities. The highlight of this event each year, is having the opportunity to compete alongside local Special Olympics athletes like Taylor.
"Taylor inspires us every day with the way he faces the world - fearless and with a big smile. He has had a number of obstacles to overcome in his life. motionball has had a direct impact on Taylor by giving him the chance to interact with young professionals and positive role models who look more at what he can do - not what he can't. This has made him more confident. Last year, Taylor brought home 2 bronze medals from the National Summer Games in Nova Scotia and interviewed the legendary Don Cherry on his very own radio show." - Steve Redmond, parent and Special Olympics coach
With Special Olympics programs and initiatives on hold, our friends at Special Olympics need us more than ever. For many of them, Special Olympics is not just about sport, or staying fit and healthy, but also about providing a social network, a sense of belonging and a valuable source of stability – all essential to their mental and physical health.
By making a donation to motionball, you're helping to ensure that athletes like Taylor have the resources they need to stay active at home and that when the time comes later this year, they can safely return to the sport programs they love.
Thank you very much for your support, Adam
