Support Jacob Throndson for the 2024 motionball Marathon Of Sport Calgary

I am so proud to be sharing that I have joined Funky Bunch for the 2024 motionball Marathon of Sport . This year, on June 22, my Team and I will be taking the field, alongside local Special Olympics athletes for a full day of sports, fun and inclusivity!

Today, I am inviting you to become a part of this amazing day by helping us reach our Team fundraising goal of $2,500. A tax receiptable donation of $20 will make a direct, local impact on Special Olympics athletes, like Damion.

Damion is a Special Olympics Alberta Certified Health Messenger and Special Olympics Winter Games 2024 Athlete Ambassador for the 2024 National Winter Games, which were held here in Calgary! Damion has been a Special Olympics athlete for seven years, competing in two Provincial Games and one National Games during that time. Damion has competed in motionball Marathon of Sport in Calgary in past years, showcasing his skills in various sports – basketball, floor hockey, golf, and pickleball, to name a few!

Damion’s highlights as a Special Olympic athlete include participating in the National Games (2018) in Nova Scotia, where he was able to meet athletes from across Canada, win a silver medal, and was named MVP for basketball.

“I got involved in Special Olympics in 2017 to be active and play sports in an environment where I felt I could fit in. Special Olympics has given me so much and has changed my life by helping me to be a more confident person. I have made many great friends being a part of Special Olympics and met some wonderful coaches. The real prize [from participating in the National Games] was learning that sports are more than just wins and losses – they are more about enjoying the journey and making new friends along the way”.

Outside of Special Olympics, Damion is the host and creator of the Accessible Athletics podcast – dedicated to sharing information about health and fitness with other Special Olympics athletes. Damion is also in his 9th year of employment at the Country Hills Golf Course and 2nd year working at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Food and Beverages services. Damion volunteers at the Calgary Zoo, the YMCA, and works as a CMBA basketball referee for youth and recreational basketball in Calgary.

While a $2,500 fundraising target is one of our Team goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more! Through events like this, motionball raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement and allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to connect, build new friendships, celebrate differences and ultimately create more inclusive communities across Canada.

With your help, we can reach our fundraising goal and make a difference in creating a more inclusive Canada! Please consider supporting our Team by making a donation directly to our fundraising page.

Every donation makes a difference.
