I am excited to be the Co-Event Director for the inaugural Marathon of Sport Mississauga to be hosted on September 14 2024. A Marathon of Sport is a fun and inclusive day of sport in which local community members engage in a full day sports tournament with local Special Olympics athletes. This event brings together athletes of all abilities on the playing field and promotes inclusion in our community.
I have been part of the motionball family since 2019 during my undergrad at McMaster University. It is an honor to bring the Marathon of Sport event to Mississauga this year and continue to share my love and passion for motionball.
As you may know, my sister Melissa is a Special Olympics athlete. motionball and the Marathon of sport not only raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics foundation- they also give a space in our community where Melissa feels welcomed, included and confident. For many Special Olympics athletes, Special Olympics is not just about sport, or staying fit and healthy, but also about providing a social network, a sense of belonging and a valuable source of stability – all essential to their mental and physical health. Through events like this, motionball raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement and allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to connect, build new friendships, celebrate differences and ultimately create more inclusive communities across Canada.

Melissa
Melissa likes to play bocce and also figure skate. Outside of sports, Melissa is a dog lover and likes to listen to Spanish music. She also enjoys her theater arts classes with DramaWay. Melissa loves meeting new people at motionball and playing with her team! She has also enjoyed meeting Tessa Virtue at the Marathon of Sport Toronto. Melissa can’t wait to have fun!
