Hello everyone,
My name is Brett Griffiths I’m a 25-year-old athlete who participates in curling, walking club and soccer. I’ve been involved with Special Olympics for approx. 15 years.
Prior to Special Olympics, I had a hard time finding a place that felt safe for me and where I could be my authentic self. All this changed 10 years ago when I discovered my Special Olympics curling team! Curling is my passion, and my curling teammates are my best friends. In 2016 I had the exciting chance to represent Manitoba in the national games!!
Special Olympics changed my life. Through this amazing community, I’ve had the privilege of meeting friends who have become like family, I have gained the confidence to embrace my abilities, and have developed leadership skills that have allowed me to make a difference.
Being involved with Special Olympics has not only improved my physical health but also my overall outlook on life. It’s given me confidence in myself and the courage to take on new challenges. I’m especially proud to serve as the Chair of the Winnipeg Athlete Leadership Council, as the athlete rep of the Winnipeg Regional Leadership Council, the athlete representative on the Board of Directors for Special Olympics Manitoba.
I’m also honored to represent my fellow athletes on the motionball Committee and as the newly appointed Manitoba representative on the Canadian Athlete Leadership Council. These roles have allowed me to use my voice to advocate for other Special Olympic athletes and offer my voice to help make Special Olympics the best it can be for all of us.
Thank you all for your continued support of motionball and for believing in the power of inclusion and the incredible potential within each of us.
Together, we are stronger, and together, we are making a difference.
