On September 20th, we are participating in an all-day fundraiser called motionball Marathon of Sport. This is an action-packed day where our Team will play sports alongside Special Olympics athletes from our community. This day helps to bring athletes of all abilities together on the playing field. While fundraising is one of our goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more.
This day not only brings awareness to the Special Olympics movement, but allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to interact, build lifelong friendships, and ultimately create more inclusive communities. The highlight of this event each year is having the opportunity to compete alongside local Special Olympics athletes like Shawn.
Shawn has been part of Special Olympics for over 25 years, competing in softball, floor hockey, basketball, and golf. This year, he’s proud to represent Team Nova Scotia in softball at the 2026 Special Olympics Canada National Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta. A gold medalist at the 2018 National Games, Shawn is also a proud Sobeys employee and Halifax Mooseheads fan. Hear from Shawn about what Special Olympics means to him:
“Special Olympics has given me the chance to make great friends, try new sports, and be part of an amazing community. I’m proud to be a Special Olympics athlete!”
While a $1,500 fundraising target is one of our Team goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more! Through events like this, motionball raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement and allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to connect, build new friendships, celebrate differences and ultimately create more inclusive communities across Canada.
With your help, we can reach our fundraising goal and make a difference in creating a more inclusive Canada! Please consider supporting our Team by making a donation directly to our fundraising page.
Every donation makes a difference.
