I am proud to be participating in the 2021 Move for motionball physical activity tracking challenge.

We can't gather in person to run any on-campus fundraisers this year, so we need your support more than ever. With many Special Olympics programs and fundraising initiatives on hold, our goal is to ensure that no athlete is left behind when programs resume.

Your donation is critical in supporting athletes participating in Special Olympics programs at every level, from the athletes who bring home gold medals and make Canada proud on the world stage to the thousands who look forward to weekly practice for fitness, fun, and friendship. You are supporting the parents, siblings, caregivers and friends of individuals with intellectual disabilities, who imagine a world of inclusion & endless possibilities.

By supporting motionball, you are helping raise important funds and creating awareness for the Special Olympics movement and making it possible for more people with intellectual disabilities to benefit from the transformative power of sport.

Thank you for your consideration -- any support is greatly appreciated.

Special Olympics Athletes On Our Team

Ben Sheard

Meet Ben, a Special Olympics Saskatchewan athlete who represents the 50,000 Canadians with an intellectual disability who participate in and benefit from Special Olympics programs. Your support ensures that athletes like Ben can get back to the playing field when it is safe to do so, and that he has the support and resources he needs to stay active at home until then. Here's a little bit about Ben!

What Special Olympics sports do you participate in?

Golf, swimming, basketball, and powerlifting.

What is your happiest/proudest Special Olympics memory?

Going to Western Canada Games in Kamloops, and going to Special Olympics provincials years ago where I met my girlfriend.

How do you like to spend your time outside of Special Olympics?

I am a bus boy at Smittys Market Mall but I was laid off because of the virus. I hope to go back soon. I love music, movies, and seeing my Special O friends (when we are allowed again). I can’t wait to spend time with my girlfriend Jillian again and I am proud of her Special Olympics performances.

What do you love most about motionball events?

Seeing my friends and other athletes, and being on a team.

HOW CAN YOUR DOLLARS HELP?

motionball for Special Olympics is a registered not-for-profit corporation, raising money for Special Olympics programs across Canada. 70% of the funds we raise are distributed to programs in the province where they are raised, with the remainder going to the long-term funding of programs through the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.

While COVID-19 has affected us all, Special Olympics athletes are feeling the effects of this global pandemic more than most. Sport programs are suspended, competitions have been cancelled, and many athletes remain stuck indoors, at a greater risk of contracting COVID-19 than the general population. Now more than ever, the role of motionball in these athlete’s lives is incredibly important. As one of the Special Olympics’ largest funding partners in Canada, motionball has donated over $13M to date. motionball supporters are dedicated to ensuring that every local club and program can return stronger than before, and that no Special Olympics athlete is left behind.
