On September 20th, we are participating in an all-day fundraiser called motionball Marathon of Sport. This is an action-packed day where our Team will play sports alongside Special Olympics athletes from our community. This day helps to bring athletes of all abilities together on the playing field. While fundraising is one of our goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more.
This day not only brings awareness to the Special Olympics movement, but allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to interact, build lifelong friendships, and ultimately create more inclusive communities. The highlight of this event each year is having the opportunity to compete alongside local Special Olympics athletes like Natalie.
Natalie has been a Special Olympics athlete for 21 years and has taken part in a wide variety of sports and is currently competing in curling, swimming and bowling. Natalie has been to many provincial summer and winter games but a sport highlight was when Natalie took the tip off at the NBA All-Star Unified Game with Steph Curry and other NBA/WNBA celebrities. Natalie is proud to call herself a Special Olympics athlete, mentor, volunteer & now Honorary athlete. Hear from Natalie about her favourite part about motionball:
"My favourite marathon of sport memory is my first time winning the trophy with Saint Mary’s - it was my very first motionball and it was the one that got me hooked!"
While a $5,000 fundraising target is one of our Team goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more! Through events like this, motionball raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement and allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to connect, build new friendships, celebrate differences and ultimately create more inclusive communities across Canada.
With your help, we can reach our fundraising goal and make a difference in creating a more inclusive Canada! Please consider supporting our Team by making a donation directly to our fundraising page.
Every donation makes a difference.
