$50 Raised Goal: $2,000
3%
Last year I raised $1,210 for Special Olympics athletes--this year I’m hoping to reach $2,000, and with the April 11th event approaching soon approaching, your support right now would make a big difference.

How your donations help
• $50 helps create more opportunities for athletes to participate in sport
• $100 provides equipment for Special Olympics athletes
• $20 supports training programs in communities like Kamloops

Every donation, no matter the amount, brings me closer to my $2,000 goal and creates meaningful opportunities for these athletes.

WHAT IS motionball AND WHY AM I GETTING INVOLVED?
Throughout March and April, my friends from Thompson Rivers University and I are teaming up to take part in an initiative called motionball--a Canadian non-profit organization that supports and raises money for Special Olympics athletes while bringing communities together through sport. For individuals with intellectual disabilities, accessing the remarkable benefits of sports can be challenging due to limited funding and barriers to using facilities and equipment.

I am taking part in the motionball Marathon of Sport to raise funds for Special Olympics Canada. On April 11th, my team and others from the community will join local Special Olympians for an action-packed day full of sports and activities. Donations to the Special Olympics will support athletes with intellectual disabilities by funding equipment, training coaches, and creating programs in communities.

WHO AM I? I love staying active and helping others. Sports play a significant role in my life which is why I believe in motionball and how it supports Canadian Special Olympians.

WHAT DOES SPORT MEAN TO ME? To me, sport builds important life skills like leadership, resilience, and perseverance. Sport gives many of us purpose and meaning - learning a new skill, winning a big game, or making a high caliber team are extremely rewarding and keep us moving towards the next challenge--overcoming obstacles instead of avoiding them.

Special Olympians are truly remarkable--they face incredible adversity yet still manage to be some of the happiest, most inspiring people you’ll ever meet. It shows that no matter how challenging things may seem, with determination and a clear goal in mind, anything is possible.

WHY ARE THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS IMPORTANT? The Special Olympics allow Special Olympians to participate in a major event that makes them feel part of the community. The Special Olympics benefit everyone involved--the athletes, their parents, family, friends, and spectators--and leave a positive impact on the community as a whole.
