I am so proud to be sharing that I have joined Let’s Make It Happen for the 2026 motionball Marathon of Sport Winnipeg. This year, on September 19th, my Team and I will be taking the field, alongside local Special Olympics athletes for a full day of sports, fun and inclusivity!

Today, we are inviting you to become a part of this amazing day by helping us reach our Team fundraising goal of $1,000. A tax receiptable donation of $20 will make a direct, local impact on Special Olympics athletes, like Alec. Hear from Alec about his experience as a Special Olympics athlete and what being part of motionball means to him:

"I started Special Olympics in early 2009. I did swimming first but then started snowshoeing in 2011. After snowshoeing, I started Track. I’ve been competing in snowshoeing and track since 2012. I have gone to many National games and 2 International games. I was in Berlin, Germany for Summer Games and I won 2 gold medals for 800 meters and Running Long Jump and a bronze medal for Relay 4X100 meters. I went to Turin, Italy for Snowshoeing and I won silver for 800 meters, gold medal for Relay 4X100 meters and a bronze medal for 400 meters. I’m training now for Nationals in Medicine Hat, Alberta in August for 3K, 1500 meters, 800 meters, Shot-Put and Running Long Jump and I hope there’s a Relay. I’m very excited that I was invited to Nationals this year."

”I have participated in motionball for 10 years. I feel happy going to motionball. I love motionball because I love to be on different teams and compete in different games and because I meet lots of people. They’re fun to play with and everybody is nice. It’s okay to win or lose. My favourite game is Bocce, Soccer, Relay, Kin Ball, and Flag Football. Sometimes I get my picture taken when I wear different costumes with my team at the photo booth. Sometimes I get candies for snack. I like the wraps for lunch. My favourite memory was my 6th year because our team won a lot and that was fun, but it’s okay if we don’t win.”

While a $5,000 fundraising target is one of our Team goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more! Through events like this, motionball raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement and allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to connect, build new friendships, celebrate differences and ultimately create more inclusive communities across Canada.

With your help, we can reach our fundraising goal and make a difference in creating a more inclusive Canada! Please consider supporting our Team by making a donation directly to our fundraising page.

Every donation makes a difference.
