I’m pumped to be participating in motionball Marathon of Sport 2026 to help support the Special Olympics! This is my first time being involved with motionball, and I’m glad to be doing it alongside friends and neighbours. Our team is called Whit’s Winners in honour of Whit Penner, who sadly passed away earlier this year. If he were still here, Whit would have undoubtedly been up for joining our team.

Marathon of Sport is motionball’s flagship event across 19 cities and 30 University campuses in Canada. This event invites teams of friends, family and corporate teams to compete in a fun day of sport and competition alongside local Special Olympics athletes, all while raising important funds and awareness in support of the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.

I will be competing in the Kelowna event in City Park on September 19, 2026. As a lifelong sports fan, I’ve long believed in the power of sport to help people and communities thrive, and I’m excited to participate and help raise some funds. I’ve set a fundraising goal of $300, and if you have some extra dollars to spare, I hope you will help me reach it. If we can reach $300, that could potentially purchase a team set of floor hockey sticks or a pool rental for a 2-hour practice. Every bit helps, and donations over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt.

All of the funds raised at motionball events go directly to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation. From there, 70 per cent of the funds are directed to the local Special Olympics provincial chapter to support local programs. For example, at Marathon of Sport Kelowna, 70 per cent of funds will be donated directly to Special Olympics British Columbia to support local programming initiatives. 25 per cent stays within the Foundation to support national Special Olympics initiatives and areas of need. The remaining five per cent supports the #NoGoodWay campaign, with the goal of changing attitudes and creating a more inclusive society for people with intellectual disabilities.

Thanks for your support!
