I am so proud to say this will be my 11th year as a volunteer Co-Event Director for motionball Hamilton. After my brother Mark participated in his first motionball Marathon of Sport event in Toronto back in 2015, he asked, “When can we do this in Hamilton with all my friends?” The next year, we brought motionball Hamilton to our local community and have been growing it ever since! This year, on June 20th, my Team and I will be taking the field alongside 35 local Special Olympics athletes for a full day of sports, fun and inclusivity!

Today, I am inviting you to become a part of this amazing event by helping us reach our Team fundraising goal of $5,000. A tax receiptable donation of $20 will make a direct, local impact on Special Olympics athletes, like my brother Mark.

This year is especially exciting for Mark as he qualified to represent Team Ontario at the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games this August in Medicine Hat, Alberta! Mark will be competing in swimming and has been putting in countless hours of training as he prepares for his very first National Games. To say I’m excited to cheer him on with signs, streamers, bells and whistles as the ultimate supportive sister would be an understatement!

Through motionball, Mark has built incredible lifelong friendships and gained so much confidence - both of which have played such an important role in helping make competing at the National Games level a reality. Hear from Mark about what being part of motionball means to him:

While a $5,000 fundraising target is one of our Team goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more! Through events like this, motionball raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement and allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to connect, build new friendships, celebrate differences and ultimately create more inclusive communities across Canada.
